Next year’s Canon Media Awards will be held on Friday, May 19, at The Langham Hotel in Auckland.
The national journalism awards, now in their 42nd year, feature the best of New Zealand’s journalism spanning newspapers, magazines and digital. Details of a new Canon Media Awards website, online entry system and new categories will be released next month.
Owned and managed by the Newspaper Publishers’ Association, with Canon New Zealand as premier sponsor, the awards attract more than 1500 entries from journalists, photographers and content teams working in all branches of the media.
The expansion of digital media has opened up the field far beyond the original constituency of print writers and still photographers.
In response to a rapidly changing media landscape, the awards will prioritise the recognition of individual journalistic excellence, irrespective of publishing platform.
The categories will be posted on www.canonmediaawards.co.nz next month with entries being accepted from 12 noon Tuesday, December 6, 2016 and closing at midnight on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.
